Discovery Special Improvement District Annual Meeting & Award Recipients The Discovery Special Improvement District Annual Meeting was held on Thursday, November 13, 2008. At this meeting, we reported on the work of the Discovery SID in 2008, its accomplishments made possible by the special duty officers, ambassadors, and outreach specialists and elected trustees. The Discovery Special Improvement District (SID) is a private sector corporation created by property owners to improve the safety and image of the Discovery District neighborhood. The district is funded by over 100 property owners and serves a 35 square block area of downtown that is generally bound by I-670 to the north, Mound Street to the south, Fifth Street to the west, and I-71 to the east. All of these individuals will provide supplemental safety services throughout the neighborhood 16 hours per day, Monday – Saturday. The SID also employs a safety specialist who links private security operations in the Discovery District with each other and the Columbus Division of Police, Franklin County court system, social service agencies, and other resources to provide a holistic approach to crime prevention and elimination of disorder. How to Request ServiceAnyone needing assistance with a safety issue should contact the SID's dispatch office at 228-5718 during the SID's hours of operations. In cases of emergency, dial 911.
